We first posted a blog on coffee pod recycling last year [ http://toddpak.co.uk/2016/09/coffee-pods-packaging-recycling/ ] which caused significant interest and enquiries. So we thought we would update that post since the popularity of premium coffee machines continues. The disposable capsules containing the drink ingredients aren’t generally welcome in household or business waste. However, there is a scheme that welcomes these difficult to recycle products, with the added benefit of supporting charitable causes.
TerraCycle have a mission of Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by recycling the “non-recyclable.” Whether it’s coffee capsules from your home, pens from a school, or plastic gloves from a manufacturing facility, TerraCycle can collect and recycle them. They partner with individual collectors as well as major consumer product companies, retailers, manufacturers, municipalities, and small businesses across 20 different countries and are able to divert millions of pounds of waste from landfills and incinerators each month.
TerraCycle® have partnered with Tassimo® and L’OR® to create a free recycling programme for Tassimo® T-DISCs, outer packaging, L’OR capsules, Kenco Eco Refill packs and coffee jar lids. The programme is run by a network of volunteers who have set up dedicated collection points at public locations across the country. The volunteers coordinate the collection and send the Tassimo, L’OR and Kenco waste to TerraCycle for recycling, raising money for charity in the process.
Use the map / post code search facility on the TerraCycle website to find your nearest public location. Then simply drop your Tassimo, L’OR and Kenco waste back to the collection point during the opening hours listed. There are currently over 230 locations across the UK.
