From monthly reporting figures for the UK’s packaging waste system, between the 1st January 2016 and 10th February 2017, it is estimated that the amount of packaging recycled or recovered in the UK is going to be 8.2 million tonnes in 2016.
The official overall packaging recycled or recovered figure for the UK in 2016 is expected to be revealed by the Environment Agency at the end of March 2017. The packaging preprocessor’s have completed the Packaging Waste Database by entering their tonnage for January 2016 – December 2016, enabling experts to get a clearer picture of the year’s performance.
The final producer recycling and recovery obligation for 2016 has been published by the Environment Agency. It stands at 7.7 million tonnes. As the packaging recovered or recycled evidence in the UK for 2016 is expected to be 8.2 million tonnes, it means nearly 500,000 tonnes of packaging evidence is expected to be carried over for 2017.
